Nicolien de Gier PhD Candidate
Resilience & SecurityNicolien de Gier is a PhD student at Crafting Resilience, where she is investigating the interaction between care and security professionals and victims of domestic violence living in the Netherlands with or without a residence permit.
Nicolien obtained her BA in Criminology from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She then obtained her MA in Forensic Criminology from Leiden University. Her thesis focused on undocumented migrants in an administrative detention centre and their experiences with procedural justice during their entry procedure.
After graduating, Nicolien started working as an academic teacher at the Criminology Department of the Faculty of Law at Leiden University. Although still enjoying teaching, she decided to move into the world of academic research.
